ABOUT THE AUTHOR
My name is
Bohdan Pylypczak
I have written estimation/manuals & books that'll save you time and money
I've been an estimator
for 40 years
Over my 40 years of experience, I have gathered extensive knowledge from working on numerous projects. By conducting regular close-out reviews/autopsy and comparing actual results with tender norms on a monthly basis, I’ve built a comprehensive understanding of cost and performance analysis.
This information has been compiled into five detailed manuals, including a dedicated section that explains how to accurately develop a project factor — rather than relying on arbitrary percentages or assumptions.
A bit about my background — I began my career as an Apprentice Electrician, registered with the JIB in the UK, and qualified as a JIB Electrician in 1973. During this time, I worked across the UK on a variety of projects, including power generation (both greenfield and brownfield) and bulk handling machinery and equipment, covering LV, MV, and HT installations as required.
I later emigrated to South Africa, where I worked underground on the gold mines as an electrician before transitioning back into construction as a PWHT Technician, and subsequently into NDT through in-house training up to Level 2. In 1987, I earned my licence to operate radioactive nuclide isotopes (Licence No. R0435) issued by the Department of National Health and Population Development in South Africa.
Following this, I returned to the electrical field with a major electrical company, progressing from Electrician to Site Supervisor. Over time, I was invited to join the Head Office as a Trainee Estimator, and during the next 27+ years, I advanced to the role of Estimation Manager. My responsibilities included attending client meetings, conducting site visits, managing supplier relationships, overseeing a team of six estimators and support staff, and mentoring numerous trainee estimators.
